APRIL 2016. MILAN, ITALY.
Madeli (Center front) with the Milan Forevermark team.
My expectations have been trumped by the beautifully majestic fashion capital of the world! Milan is awe inspiring and definitely a city that I would wish to return to again and again. Here, many different cultures and styles come together, influencing new fashion trends, yet always keeping a touch of the Milanese elegance and sophistication.
Once in Milan, I was warmly welcomed by the members of Forevermark Italy and quickly became a part of the team. Forevermark is a very innovative company that makes a huge impact on the jewellery fashion industry worldwide. Nonetheless, each designer and member of the team is given the freedom to express their own creativity and individuality.

De Beers together with Forevermark has had an immeasurable impact on my life, my future and on my career as jeweller and designer. As a recent Jewellery Design and Manufacturing graduate at the Tshwane University of Technology, I was faced with the big decision of specialising into one of the many facets of the jewellery trade. With winning the Shining Light Awards, I was given the wonderful opportunity to explore and integrate in a fresh environment and part of the industry which I have not yet experienced. I was also handed the huge privilege of inspiring my fellow up-and-coming young jewellery designers to follow their dreams, and through winning this international award motivate them to keep working hard to achieve their goals and reach for the top!
The programme has already given me so much more than I could ever have hoped for. It made me realise that passion, perseverance and constant effort truly pays off. Through the Awards, my work has been showcased at important international events, featured in the Shine luxury brand magazine and introduced globally through all the different news canals. Furthermore, I am hoping to expand my experience, knowledge and skills, inevitably preparing me for a successful future in the jewellery world. Likewise, I want to give back to my community, i.e. share what I have learned with the younger students when I return to South Africa to resume my Honours and Masters studies after the programme here in Milan.
